The Rt. Rev. James E. Curry, Bishop Suffragan
Bishop Curry oversees Hispanic and multicultural ministries, Christian formation ministries, Camp Washington, international and domestic mission, and liturgy & music. He is very active locally and nationally in advocacy work, and has been particularly involved in speaking about the Church's opposition to capital punishment and its support of immigration reform. He has an ongoing mission partnership with the Bishop and Diocese of Lebombo in Mozambique and serves on community and church-wide committees involved with mission and advocacy. Contact info: The Rt. Rev. James E. Curry, jcurry@ctdiocese.org Biography In the 1970s, Jim served as a consultant for Issues of Institutional Racism in Education and for Sex and Racial Equity in Education. From 1972-82, he was an elementary school teacher at Gateway Regional Schools, Huntington, Mass. He was seminarian assistant at St. Mary’s Church, Enfield, Conn. from 1982-85. Jim was curate at Trinity Church, Torrington, CT from 1985-88 and rector at Trinity Church, Portland, Conn. from 1988-98. He served as Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of Connecticut from 1998 to 2000. As a parish priest, he served on the Town of Portland’s Anti-Violence Task Force; Portland Main St. Program Advisory Committee; Portland Clergy Association; Portland Substance Abuse Prevention Council; Chaplain’s Advisory Committee and Institutional Review Board of Middlesex Hospital. Bishop Curry is Vice President and Provincial Bishop of Province 1 of the Episcopal Church (New England) and serves on the Presiding Bishop’s Council of Advice. He is Coordinator of Bishops Working for a Just World, the public policy advocacy network in the House of Bishops. He is also Vice Chair of the Standing Commission on the Structure of the Church. Jim is married to Kathleen McIntosh, a professor at Westfield State College in Massachusetts. They have three children: Patrick, Serena and Gretchen.
